Free Civil Service Coaching for the 70 students selected from different schools in Trivandrum has been started at P. Gopinathan Nair Civil Service Academy, an initiative of Noorul Islam University and NIMS Medicity on 26th of January 2012. The function was accompanied by flag hoisting by the renowned Gandhiyan and Kerala Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi Chairman, Shri. P. Gopinathan Nair. Shri. On Jan 30th NIMS Harithakom along with Gandhi Vidhyardhi Mandalam is celebrating, Mahathma Gandhi Viswashanthi Day Celebration. For this NIMS had sponsored 700 fruit tree saplings to all major schools in Trivandrum District. The schools, students who take care of these saplings will be given gifts. The project motivates Children's affection towards the environment and trees.
Mr. Shamsudheen, age 39, a cardiac patient from Kollam was selected for Bypass Surgery on 28th of January 2012 under NIMS Heart to Heart Project. The patient had attended the Free Medical Camp conducted by NIMS in Kollam and applied the authority for the project consideration. After understanding that the patient is genuine and is eligible for free heart surgery, he was selected for getting the Project benefit.

LIVER CARE AWARENESS CAMPAIGN BY NIMS INSTITUTE OF LIVER STUDIES AND GASTROENTEROLOGY
With the advent of increasing number of liver diseases –both alcoholic and non alcoholic- among men, women and children in the state, the NIMS Institute of Liver Studies and Gastroenterology, a total liver care centre is implementing a massive awareness campaign. The movement - aimed at creating a comprehensive understanding against all disorders including those related with Hepatitis alcoholism -will be implemented in association with government and non governmental agencies across the State. The campaign was inaugurated on 20th of December 2011 by Dr D Jayakumar, Sr. Consultant Gastroenterologist, NIMS Medicity at Hotel Dubai International, Trivandrum. On the press release the participant journalists' blood tests were conducted.

Hon. Chief Minister of Sarawak (Malaysia), Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud along with 16 high ranking officials visited Noorul Islam University and NIMS Medicity on 08.12.2011.
An MOU was signed between UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI MARA SARAWAK, MALAYSIA & NOORUL ISLAM UNIVERSITY, INDIA in the presence of Noorul Islam University Chairman, Dr. Majeed Khan, Vice Chancellor, Shiva Subrahmaniyam, and Pro-chancellor Muthu Nayagam. The Memorandum of Understanding is on the friendship, co-operation and exchanging of twining programs, promotion of research activities, academic, avionics and marine engineering, personnel exchange and campus placement activities.
The team visited NIMS Medicity in Neyyattinkara in the afternoon. The Minister inspected Cardiac, Neonatal, Nephrology, Gastroenterology and other specialty departments of the hospital.

Unlocking One�s Potential Prior To Civil Service Examination
Noorul Islam Civil Service Academy (NICS) conducted an interactive session with the famous Neuro Linguistic Programmer and life coach Dr. A. Abraham on the topic �Mind Dynamics for Self Empowerment�. A seminar attended by students from all walks of life focused on the issue of �Discovering one�s potential� prior to their venture into the highly competitive Civil Service Examination. After the formal session there was an open discussion between the students and the Academic Directors, Dr. Ferosh M.Basheer and Sylesh Fernandas. Programme We have conducted a programme called "Guru sandhwanam" in the teacher?s hermitage at Pattoor, Nalumukku. There are 55 inmates in the hermitage. All are one way or other separated from the society and family. The institution is run by the Government of Kerala and is directly under the DPI. They are all aged and having many mental and physical challenges. We conducted a Medical camp there for the in mates. Eminent Doctors from General Medicine, psychology, Dental and ophthalmology departments took part in the camp. It was exceptionally good service to them especially the psychological counselling. The Director of Public Instructions Mr.APM Mohammed Hanish IAS had inaugurated the medical camp. The Cooperation and Coir Minister Mr. G. Sudhakaran came to the function and he paid respect to the elderly teachers by wearing ponnadas. He also handed over the Refrigerator donated by NIMS Medicity to the inmates.
A paper on "Carbon foot prints on our daily life" was presented by Mr. Renjen Mathew Vargese, Our special environmental officer, in the international conference for environmental issues held in santhigiri. He is state director for WWF. It was an excellent presentation and he was aooreciated by many deligates. It was a new thought and a special way of looking at the environmental problem.

The fast changing life styles and the increase in fast food culture combined with the lack of exercise has considerably depleted the quality of life of the modern man. We can see that heart deceases has become more like an epidemic in the society. People aged 30-45 are more prone to this dread disease. Proper periodical checkups can, to an extent, control sudden heart attacks. Successful Surgery on Chest Tumor
Our Cardiac Team under the Chief Cardio Thoracic Surgeon, Dr. Rameshwara T, MS, MCh, DNB, FIACS, has successfully removed the Chest tumor from a female patient at NIMS Medicity on 18 of Nov. 2011. The 39 year old patient has consulted the doctor as she was suffering from shortness of breath for last 6-8 months.
She had no cough or weight loss. While going through the Routine examination, Chest X-ray (L) sided shadow was found. On Chest CT Scan (L) Anterior Mediastinal Tumor with no contrast Enhancement was diagnosed.
CT guided FNAC test showed ? THYMOMA. Patient underwent Exploratory Thoracotomy on 18/11/2011 and the tumor was excised totally.

All health care professionals are at high risk acquiring Hepatitis B virus infection which is associated with long term liver complications. As part of NIMS Hospital�s CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) program Hepatitis B Immunization injection was given for all staffs free of cost in order to avoid infection.
